The first match was Ibushi v Fale, and I’m glad they got it out of the way first. As usual, Owens and Jado got involved as much as they could. Ibushi managed to overcome them to kick out of a Grenade, then hit the Bomaye and Kamigoye for the win.
Thankfully, that was followed by two of the best British wrestlers on the scene today, Will Ospreay and Zack Sabre Junior. This was a great match with ZSJ countering most of Ospreay’s offence, one of my favourite moments of the tournament so far was ZSJ catching OSpreay in a triangle hold when he tried a 450! Like EVIL in ZSJ’s previous match, Ospreay tried to use his strength to power out of a lot of ZSJ’s holds, but he wasn’t as effective and ZSJ locked in a modified octopus hold during a Stormbreaker attempt by Ospreay to make him tap out.
Next up, Lance Archer continued his streak of great matches against the Champ, Kazuchika Okada.
Archer went straight after Okada before he finished his entrance, took it to the outside, and took some time out to make a child cry. Honestly, I would probably cry if Archer was shouting at me too! Red Shoes got in between Archer and the child to make it stop.
Archer looked brilliant in this match, he’s not at Okada’s level, but he’s a great power guy and puts Fale in the shade.
Okada sold the beating he took impressively. He barely got out of a pin attempt after Blackout by putting his foot on the rope. Later, he used dropkicks to take Archer down but it really looked like they took it out of him.
In the end, while Archer just absorbed a spinning Rainmaker, Okada finally put him down with a big Rainmaker for the win.
KENTA v SANADA was a good, solid, match. While it wasn’t either man’s best of the tournament, it was a good watch. Near the end, SANADA hit a TKO and went for a moonsault but KENTA got his knees up. This is something that’s started to annoy me about SANADA (probably the only thing), he keeps missing pins and submissions to go for a moonsault then losing matches because of it. Luckily, in this case KENTA wasn’t able to get a pinfall. In the end, SANADA won by locking in Skull End and then finally actually hitting the moonsault for the pin.
The main event was EVIL v Tanahashi. This was another solid match, it had some good spots including EVIL using Tsuji on the outside to hit the Magic Killer on Tanahashi. EVIL almost won after getting his knees up to block Tanahashi’s first attempt at the High Fly Flow. Tanahashi injured his knee during the match, but EVIL couldn’t maintain an advantage, and Tanahashi won when he landed the High Fly Flow.
