Smackdown emanated from the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York as the SmackDown before Mania rolled on. With high expectations heading into the show, lets dive in and find out how the show took place.

Kofi WWE championship celebration

We kicked the show off with the New Day coming out to celebrate Kofi’s triumph at WrestleMania over Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship. It was a joyous scene. Pancakes and rainbows everywhere. Big E was the excellent comedic foil of the segment, breaking out an outstanding split. Xavier talked about how Kofi has been his hero. All heart-warming stuff. And out comes The Bar to poop on the party. After some back and forth, a 6 man tag match was set up for the main event with Drew joining forces with the Bar.

Analysis

This was a feel-good segment with the New Day having their moment only to be marred by the bar. This worked way better than what they did on RAW. Although I’m not a fan of Drew being a part of such 3 man heel teams, I think this dynamic works the best. Solid opener.

Ali, Aleister Black and Ricochet V Andrade, Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura

Speaking of 6 man tags, this happened. Ricochet and Nakamura start the match which would’ve been a great match at some point. The heels cut the ring in half, keeping Ricochet at bay. Finally, Ricochet makes the tag and this is where the faces up the intensity. They do the cool sitting spot as well. We see a cool moon sault of the barrier by Ricochet, a Kinshasa, a black mass. It is all kicking off. Meanwhile, Mustafa is in the ring with Andrade where he hits the 450 splash to pick up the win. Another feel good moment. Post-match, Orton sneaks in and RKOs Ali before leaving only for Owens to come in and hit Rusev with the stunner.

Analysis

This was another feel good moment with the faces picking up the win. Cool spots in the match. Fun!

Samoa Joe lays down the challenge

Out comes Carmella and R-Truth. They basically praise each other. Carmella talks about how much fun it has been with Truth. And Truth talks about how proud he is of Carmella for winning the uterus. And then out comes Samoa Joe. Joe lays out R-Truth and throws down a challenge for whoever wants it and out comes Braun Strowman, rushing the ring and picking up Joe for the power slam which Joe is able to get out of and scurry away with his title.

Analysis

I hope this isn’t the feud going forward. Both guys have been stumbling on the roster. Joe has recently started to pick up steam and putting the two separate would be the way to go. Only time will tell perhaps. It could turn out to be a stellar feud between two monsters. We shall see.

The IIconics v The Brooklyn Belles

The IIconics come out and imitate the Boss N Hug connection by talking about how they will defend their titles on all the shows and their opponents for tonight were 45-0 and out come, the Brooklyn Belles! Perfect. Billie and Peyton make quick work of the local competitors and retain their titles.

Post-match however, we see Paige being interviewed backstage where she talks about a team we shall be seeing next week.

Analysis

This was perfect. Played perfectly to the IIconics character and made them look dominant in the process. Awesome stuff.

Shane McMahon-The best in the world

Shane comes out and cuts a heel promo, talking about how millions tuned in to see him beat the Miz. After the promo, Shane made the announcer Greg Hamilton announce Shane again and again and again until Shane was satisfied.

Analysis

This was a decent heel promo but didn’t further any storyline. It was serviceable.

The Usos v The Hardy Boyz-WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship

A battle between the generations. During the match, we saw Jimmy go for Whisper in the wind only to miss and for Jeff to hit the same. Near the end, Jeff dodged the double Uce, setting up the twist of fate/ Swanton bomb combination to pick up the win! Post-match, out comes Lars Sullivan and lays out the new champs with two freak accidents.

Analysis

This was the best match of the night. Super fun to see the two tag teams battle it out and a fun surprise seeing the Hardys win. Perhaps opening the doors for an Uso shakeup. Post match, lars continued his story of the legend killer of sorts. Excited to see where it goes.

Becky promises double duty

The champ champ comes out and talks about how she was unfazed by Laceys attack last night. She goes on to talk about taking on all comers and is willing to pull double duty to take down every foe. As she is leaving, she gets clocked by Lacey Evans who stands tall over Becky.

Analysis

This was a fine promo. The Crowd love Becky. This segment worked better for me than the one on RAW. This could be a great first feud for Becky. Looking forward to see how this plays out.

The Bar and Drew McIntyre v The New Day

Before the match starts, Sami Zayn comes out and before saying anything, just leaves. Sure,

Onto the match, it was a fine match. Drew is great at trash talking in the ring. Kofi gets a big pop at the tag and picks up a win for his team.

Analysis

Another feel good moment. It was a fine match. Fun way to close out the show,

Overall Analysis

This was a fun episode of SmackDown. People were disappointed by both RAW and SmackDown since they have been conditioned to expect big returns, debuts and such. But the purpose of the two episodes was to provide fun moments while also keep the plates spinning for the shakeup and it worked!
